The Calvo Group is a backwardvertically integrated group of companies dedicated to the fishing, processing, and distribution of canned goods. The group is centered around Luis Calvo Sanz,S.A., a company established in 1940 in Carballo.

About

Grupo Calvo operated in the town of Guanta, Venezuela, under the name "Atuneras del Oriente" (ATORSA), and later as Industrias Calvo Conservas de Venezuela S.A. Between 1991 and 2001, the company had to temporarily close due to a shortage of tuna. A few years after reopening, in 2004, it faced labor conflicts with part of the workforce as it sought to make substantial staff reductions. That same year, the company suffered an armed attack that resulted in a fire at its Venezuelan facilities, causing considerable material damage.

In 2003, Calvo opened a facility in El Salvador, specifically in Puerto La Unión. In 2006, the company expanded its canned fish facility in Gomes da Costa, Brazil. In November 2008, Calvo closed its cannery in Laayoune, Western Sahara. That same year, the company reported a net profit of two million euros.

Since 2017, 77.8% of the company has been owned by the Calvo family, while 22.2% is held by the Italian conglomerate Bolton Group, which paid a total of 70 million euros for its stake. In 2017, for the first time, Calvo began distributing its products under the private label of the Día supermarket chain.
